threesixty Launches Free IHT Planning Guide
IFA support services provider threesixty has launched a new, free guide for IFAs on the principles of inheritance tax (IHT) planning in response to increasing demand for clarity on the subject from the IFA community.
The proportion of estates subject to IHT has doubled from 3% in the Chancellor’s 1999 budget statement to 6% in the 2007 statement. IHT can be a highly complex area of financial planning. But according to the guide, for the majority of clients it is usually possible for IFAs to reduce the effects of this tax using straightforward arrangements.
David Ingram, one of the founding partners of threesixty and author of the IHT guide, commented: “The 2006 Budget introduced fundamental changes to IHT with many previously legitimate planning routes being closed off. Even after the 2007 budget there is still a lot of confusion out there and this situation needs to be rectified as IHT planning requires certainty. We have produced this guide in an attempt to show IFAs where the certainties are and also where problems are most likely to occur.”
