NHS pension scheme: local options to mitigate AA and LTA issues in 2019/20

The NHS has issued guidance to employers with regard to offering local measures in 2019/20 to ease the problems caused by pension taxation due to the tapered annual allowance or lifetime allowance restrictions.

Although the Government has recently confirmed their plans to offer increased flexibility for senior members of the NHS scheme from April 2020 (see our previous article at the link below), this won’t help those NHS trusts or individuals impacted by the tapered annual allowance in the current tax year. Many NHS trusts believe they need to act now to try and resolve their staffing issues and so they are offering local solutions.
